A Beautiful Disaster

For those people that know me personally will know this little project was really special to me. It features a collaboration between myself and artist Defective Alien. We call the collaboration…

‘A Beautiful Disaster’

As an artist, Defective Alien mainly creates striking wheat paste street art but she also makes mixed media collages of which I have captured part of here in the form of fabric for my corsetry! I hope you like them! We absolutely love them!

Here are a few other of her works of which I have not got around to making with yet. Please let me know if you would like a corset making with any of these!

I have got pretty much free reign on the Defective Alien Art so please go check out her other work on Instagram.

Both the corset and cincher are now available to order in the shop!

These two samples will be listed on my Etsy store later. Let me know if you would like a custom corset making!

Confessions of a Serial Killer

I created this design back in 2010 for a very limited run. I  wasn’t really happy with the printing method or the fabric I was limited to so I made it unavailable. The print has now been perfected onto cotton so it is available again!

I had this idea to create the character of Amelia the Serial Killer. Locked away in the confines of the Asylum she shares with you her personal diary. This is all captured in the fabric of the corset. Gruesome bloody, torn and burnt pages of the Diary and the eyelids of her victims of which she keeps as trophies.

Working together with the beautiful Minty playing the part of Amelia, she manages to portray the innocent but deadly killer perfectly. Captured on film by Katelizabeth. I absolutely LOVED this shoot. It’s not just about the corset.

You can purchase this corset here or on my etsy store. Standard sizing or made to measure!

Word on the street is that Amelia escaped the Asylum and could be up to her old tricks again…..

Clone Stars

Sorry for the delay in new designs and ramblings! I’ve been super busy! So here goes….

I wanted to do a photoshoot with Colin from Technoir Photography for quite some time and was trying to set up a date so we could combine it with a drink and catch up afterward. I had recently met up with long lost friend Tracy which was absolutely delightful and she agreed to model for us just like old times for Armory! It was my birthday coming up and with my dear friend Anastasija aka Anastasija Potjomkina the RottenZombieFairy coming  from London I asked her if she wanted to use her crazy good make-up skills and join the colab! YES! Perfect birthday weekend sorted! As always with GC shoots, it isn’t just about the corsets but more of a social thing. Good friends coming together to create…. and more importantly party afterward. The Honey JD did flow quite nicely thank you Ana….. And birthday cake. Lots of birthday cake. I was spoilt rotten. Literally – Rotten.

I’ve not made a blog post for quite some time now as I’ve been super busy creating gorgousness for my lovely clients. I have however been drafting some new patterns, one being an underbust corset and the other an overbust corset. This new draft is called ‘Alice’ and is more curvy than all of my other corsets. It also allows for more room around the ribs unlike my more popular conical styles. Alice is now available to order in both the Clone Stars Overbust and Clone Stars Underbust designs! Check them out in the shop! Let me know if you want the ‘Alice’ draft making with a custom print design, I print all my own fabrics so quite a lot of scope is possible! Please take a look at the Styles and Fabrics page for more ideas and information. I have a new print colour available of which you can see on the Clone Stars Underbust corset pictures, it is opalescent and changes colour depending on which angle you look at it. Absolutely stunning!

For the shoot I wanted to create a strange ‘clone’ theme to it. I think everyone did a great job. Anastasija did a fantastic job of the make-up and Colin made the final images perfect. Considering we were struggling to get a studio and ended up turning my bathroom into a lab, I think we did brilliant! I can see this team getting together more often in future!

A big thank-you to everyone involved, for the hard work. If you need a make-up artist or photographer for your project check out the links below I cannot recommend them enough. A MASSIVE thank-you also goes to our loves Erin-Jay and Sarah for keeping us sane on the day and keeping us in supplies AND birthday cake! <3

Of Queens & Hexes

The first corset I created for the wonderful Noizmare to model was the Hexagram Cincher.

As it was a collaboration I let her pick the silk and the print design. As all my designs are customisable, this tiny piece can be made with a different print design or symbol. I like to go and hand pick the silk from my supplier, having so many colours to choose from makes life a bit difficult and I always end up buying much more than I actually need. Mila – model name Noizmare picked this beautiful lilac shot silk dupion.

This little cincher has proved to be a popular design in the past. The front and back of the cincher measures just 7 inches with a tiny 4.5 inches at the sides, it makes it quite a versatile piece whilst still cinching that waist! I added tiny black spikes to match the hand finished black silk edging and trims.

The next corset I created for Noizmare was The Hive Queen Anthracite. I really enjoyed making this for Mila, I love her classic gothic look with just the right amount of evil to each picture capturing exactly what I wanted for this Evil Queen.

This beautiful underbust corset is made of Satin Coutil with each panel individually hand printed with a hive design.

It also features external trim with black spikes and side panniers of tulle falling to calf length. I also used a gorgeous black busk to keep the piece very dark and gothic.

This print design was actually created for a t-shirt design I had done a few weeks ealier. I loved it so much and wanted to make a corset using it.

Glen from 13th Life Photography created all the beautiful photos for Noizmare and GC. He did an amazing job capturing a majestic charm but still in keeping with the evil twist that was in the brief. I would very much like to work with both Noizmare and 13th Life Photography in the future, I already have a few ideas for which I think they would be perfect for. A great big thank-you to both Mila and Glen!

Gore Couture x Venal Flesh

Gore Couture x Venal Flesh

“His own image; no longer a dark, gray bird, ugly and disagreeable to look at, but a graceful and beautiful swan.”

First sml

The quote above was (pardon the pun) plucked directly from Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling”, a children’s tale that delved into the harsh world of bird beauty standards. Oh, and becoming the de facto allegory for metamorphosis…of the “fortune favors anyone willing to sit & wait long enough” variety.  Let’s see, as sympathetic as our cygnet protagonist was, the transformation into his final form was nothing more than nature taking its course. Also known as growing into your features.  His suffering wasn’t brought on by toiling to transcend his inherent duck appearance and characteristics, but by a case of mistaken identity. There was no struggle to earn his Swan Card © on any level. No painful neck-lengthening procedures, no enrolling in Terrorizing Boaters 101 courses taught by Mr. Asbo himself  nor sparring in underground fowl fight clubs in order to fund all those costly surgeries. The way I see it, by the end of the story, our hero was little more than a duck in swan’s clothing.

The implication being that these so-called extreme makeovers are entirely possible with all the gain and none of the pain.

By contrast, the appearance of the white swan in alchemical illustrations (I am referring to alchemy in the Hermetic, perfecting of the human consciousness sense, as opposed to manufacturing gold in a lab) signals that the aspirant has successfully completed the calcination, dissolution and separation phases of the Great Work. It shows the ability to gain a degree of mastery over bad habits, unhealthy attachments and mindless, automatic response to biological impulses.  From the calcinated, dissolved and separated remains of those former selves one salvages the thoughts and feelings that fall in line with experiencing a more harmonious reality. The next step, conjunction, unifies the opposing rational (intellect) and intuitive (emotion) elements recovered in the separation phase into a balanced, cohesive whole, thus fast-tracking the alchemist’s spiritual evolution.  White swan symbolism embodies the union of these opposites.  And while “earning your wings” signifies triumph over the shadows of the soul, it is merely a stop on the road to enlightenment, not the end game. Making it evident that within the context of this spiritual tradition, unlocking “swan status”, happens neither by luck nor genetics, but by emerging victorious from battling inner demons.

Though there are countless portrayals of these noble birds as totems of transformation, the alchemical narrative which illustrates how drastic change of either physical or spiritual nature won’t come without bruising (be it of the flesh or ego) resonates with me the most.

In the realm of fashion, no garment conveys the principle of effortless grace never being truly effortless better than the neck corset.  It is structured with the intent to force the wearer maintaining proper posture. The chin is kept high and the neck perpetually extended, which in turn creates a visual illusion of elongation, resulting in a swan-like appearance. This particular piece mirrors Gore Couture’s older Cada Vera style, embellished with extra bandages, which look right at home alongside the blood and stitches. Can there be a better sartorial metaphor for laying one’s neck on the line in pursuit of meeting one’s aesthetic ideal?

Second sml

Swans as icons of inner and outer transmutation figure as the central theme of these photos –the collaborative effort between Krissy Gore who handcrafted the neck corset and my band Venal Flesh. Dan, the vocalist’s, androgynous appearance lent itself to assuming avian form, as there is little difference between the male and the female in the wild. As the stylist, I opted to distance the bird from ballet and fairytale tropes, by reimagining it with more predatory flair. Swapping the webbed feet for talons served a dual purpose: emphasizing the territorial aggression that swans readily display in their habitats and the individual’s will to claw through hell to attain their desire. Additionally, the alchemy of beauty (expressed through the black, white, and red palette), as well as its symbiotic relationship with artifice, is explored and aestheticized.

Third sml

Fourth sml

Swan achievements include: Elemental mastery of earth (walking on land), water (swimming) and air (flying). Also sending fear into the hearts of anyone dumb or unlucky enough to trespass on their turf.  YouTube is plentiful in videos of grown men fleeing from the beaks and wings of irate waterfowl.

Iridescence

I created these corsets using a beautiful iridescent hologram print. Although I’m not known for making many ‘pretty’ corsets, even my blackened heart can’t resist the beautiful colours it creates. This kind of fashion statement has been around for so long now I don’t think it will ever get boring. I was very happy when I figured out I could work it into my pieces.

I made Cold Blooded for the beautiful Evilyn Frantic, I have wanted to work with her for so long! I included matching pasties. Each cotton coutil panel is printed with iridescent scales. This shape is the ‘Demon’ underbust style but can be made in any other of my styles.

Close up shots showing the print & embellishment detail.

Underwater Love was made for wonderful Miss Polli along with a matching neck corset. Again, each coutil panel is carefully printed with my design of seaweed and jelly fish. I also added beautiful iridescent spikes to finish this piece. It is quite majestic! Made in the ‘Lady Killer’ style for Miss Polli but like Cold Blooded it can be made in any other style.

Baphomet, The Beast and The Beauty.

It started when I was chatting to a girl on line about septum piercings. We were both at the 4mm stretch so we shared the pain and had a laugh about it. The girl I was chatting to was Alex who also goes by the model name of Kathy Alexa. Alex said she liked the Baphomet corset of mine. So I said well, do you want to come over and model it and I’ll put some spikes on it as I’d planned?  She said – oh alright then! Quite glad she did!

Then I got a text from an old friend Dan with a picture of his new build. A Harley Davidson with a 1450 twin cam B fitted up to a Baker RSD 6 speed gearbox. Full build and fabrication by Dan himself. Fantastic! So I got to thinking maybe we could have a shoot with The Corset, The Bike and Alex. We had not seen Dan and his partner Tracey in ages, travelled half way round the world with them once upon a time so thought this would be a nice little get together. Dan agreed. Quite glad he did!

Another reason for this was for me to have a bit of a practice with my camera. Over the last 15+ years or so I’ve been the model, the make-up artist, the director and the designer. Time to pick up my camera….. perfect opportunity – I adore bikes, I was surrounded by them in a past life. I could do the shoot and feel very relaxed with old friends (I sometimes get quite nervous) AND get pics of a great model wearing my stuffs! Awesome! I’m really happy with the pictures. Everyone got involved and directed in some way. Me, Erin-Jay, Dan & Tracey absolutely loved Alex, at some points we had to stop shooting because we were just crying with laughter. Then when we had finished we kicked back and had a fabulous BBQ and more laughs. Couldn’t have asked for a better day.

This was one of those times. One of those times when things come together effortlessly. One of those times that was very much needed. No months of planning, no months of stressing. Just good people coming together to make some pictures. Whether they came out brilliant or not it didn’t really matter that much. We made awesome memories.

The Spiked Baphomet Corset is available to buy here, or if you want a custom corset creating – let me know! There are a couple of Gore Couture vests up for grabs! Follow the rules on the picture to be in with a chance at winning one! on Instagram and Facebook.
